What God taught me during my 14-day Facebook Fast!

As most of you know, our son, Jonah, has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. There are only 40 known cases in the World so it is a very rare case.  He has been undergoing all sorts of tests, including 2 heart caths, echocardiogram, cardiac MRI, etc to see what they are going to do.  During all of this I was finding myself going to my personal FB page to kind of “escape” our reality, BUT what I was finding is there was so much negativity on FB.  Negativity that I have never seen before.  I was seeing friends degrading other friends for who they voted for in this election, etc and for that reason I decided to take a 14-day fast from my personal FB page for over two weeks. I decided I needed to get more in God’s word and seek His wisdom and His discernment.  When I get done reading His book, I don’t feel that depressed, but uplifted.  

It truly was a blessing to step away from facebook 🙂 I am so tired of seeing all the negativity and then people complain about negativity.  If we truly are tired of negativity, then we need to be the change. We cannot be negative and then say “well I had to comment, because I didn’t agree with what was on their FB page”.  One thing I am certain of, is you WILL NOT change someone’s opinion by being negative or nasty.  When we do that, people become defensive.  

I choose to ONLY post positive things, I hope many of you will join me. I choose to surround myself with positive people. I am not saying we will not have problems or we may need someone to talk to, but we can do that tastefully.  We can encourage others.  When people are putting such hateful things on FB, I think we all need to reevaluate our own life. It is easy to point out others downfalls, but do we just as quickly look in the mirror and see our own downfalls/shortcomings? Rather than looking at their downfalls, maybe we need to re-read what we have put on FB and see if it is pleasing to God. As quickly as we ask Jesus for mercy and grace are we willing to show others that same mercy and grace as quickly?

I think social media is a great thing, but it has also done so much damage to our society. It has allowed people to hide behind a keyboard and type nasty comments, things that most people would not say to those people in person. I choose LOVE. I choose JOY. I choose to be a light in this dark world. I want God to use me as a vessel in all areas of life. I completely surrender my life to him, in all areas. I need to focus on what he can do and not what I can’t do. God’s plans are so much better than ours and I don’t have to convince someone to think like me, all I need to do is show Love and Kindness.  #Kindnesswins  #LoveNeverFails.  Praying you all have a great day. 2ND-ANNUAL WARMING THE CITY OF TOLEDO BY TYING SCARVES, HATS, GLOVES, AND SOCKS  (Socks Donated by Hannah’s Socks) to trees in Downtown Toledo for our Homeless Friends! Thanks also to Carla Woodell for her wonderful donation of our cards we attached to each scarf 🙂 

Such a fun time today.  This was our second year of doing this project but due to the unseasonably warm weather we held off until today to do it.  We collected a total of 598 scarves and socks (some had hats and gloves in them also) It is amazing to see how many people gave of their Saturday. God is sooooo good!! Here is a picture of all the volunteers from today 🙂 

We always start any project off in prayer asking for God’s guidance and for him to bless everyone that received a scarf and everyone that took time to donate, knit, crochet, volunteer, or pray over this project to be blessed.  More than anything else for God’s name to be glorified in all we do, because all the Praise and Glory belong to him.  
I loved watching everyone find the perfect tree to tie the scarves too, knowing as we walked around I continued to pray for everyone that will/would receive a scarf and the other items.  

Love Cheryl and her heart. . . so blessed to call her not only friend, but also family 🙂

 
We went to two other locations also and handed them out.  What a mighty God we serve as we watch so many being so blessed by the things we take for granted (being warm, warm socks, etc) 

Cindy heard about it on 93.5 WRQN and decided to come and help. What a true blessing she was – Love her to pieces 🙂 

We were blessed to be able to help Saturday Morning Picnic Group.  Nothing makes a mom more proud than to watch your children serve.  Matthew 25:40 

Today was so cold, but look at how many came out to get help. . . we are in a hurting city and it doesn’t take much to lighten someone’s load, all while being blessed ourselves 

Another one of my favorite things is watching the interaction, you see, we don’t see homeless people, we see God’s creation . .  

Hands touching hands. . . not a hand out, but a hand up . . . 

All for the Glory of God . .  

We then ended up at our last destination where I was brought to tears.  Troy and Cheryl had a sleeping bag that William was so excited to receive.  He was beyond blessed.   Thank you Jesus for using each of us as a vessel in Your Kingdom.  

Then I stood and watched Tiffany, Cindy, and Jamie giving of their own items to warm someone else up. That is what the LOVE of Jesus looks like. Giving of oneself to help someone less fortunate. This was my first day meeting Cindy, but I can tell you it was no accident she came to help.  Tiffany and Brad have hearts of gold.  They would give the shirt off their back to help those less fortunate and Jamie, well, he also has a heart of gold.  
I LOVE watching God at work and how he can use each of us for HIS glory!!!! It is easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of our life, but I can tell you some of the greatest joy you will ever have is giving back, giving of yourself.  None of us can help everyone, but all of us can help someone and when we do, we serve Jesus.  To show his unconditional love is something so many want.  If you are waiting for a miracle, BE ONE!

If any of you knit or crochet, please considering helping us get ready for next year!!  Nancy and her mom knitted several for us. I will need all items sent to me no later than January 8th. We will be doing this Saturday, January 28th from 10 to noon.  Please meet at the Edison Plaza where we will pray before we break off into groups to tie the scarves.  If you crochet or knit, please consider donating to this wonderful cause. FREE PRINTABLE VALENTINE CARDS FOR FRIENDS

Most kids love to pass out Valentine Cards to their classmates.  But as we all know, with multiple children it can get pretty pricey (unless you’re a frugal shopper and purchase the cards at the end of the season and store them your gift closet for next year).  For that reason, we decided to design our own Valentine Cards to print this year.   I personally love the baggie toppers.  I think they are SUPER cute and an easy way to include a treat.  Who doesn’t like goldfish and popcorn?! As most of you know, I love bright colors so it was fun to design these toppers and thought I would share them with you.  These make for very inexpensive Valentine cards for friends and a great alternative to the traditional store-bought cards.

FREEZER MEAL SHOPPING LIST

Here is the shopping list for each individual meal or you can print the complete shopping list for all 13 meals (12 dinners and 1 breakfast) broken down by categories, if you are planning on making all of them.  You will also want to make sure to purchase gallon-sized freezer bags and a black permanent marker.  It will take you approximately 3-4 hours to complete prepare these meals.  Most of these meals require very little prepping.  I highly recommend cutting all your vegetables and meat at once.  Also, please note any recipes that call for potatoes, make sure to place them in the bottom of the bags so they do not brown/blacken.  If you want, you can cut the potatoes the day you cook the meal, but I personally like to have all the prep work completed.
