Deflation
A decrease in overall prices in the economy, as evidenced by the annual inflation rate below 0% (negative).
Deflator (implied)
A series that shows price changes and can change nominal values into "real" values that are adjusted for inflation. An implied deflator is a series that shows the implied change in average prices for the current division of a series of current prices by a series of real or volume prices.
Depreciation
A drop in the value of an asset or currency compared to another asset or currency.
Direct taxation
Taxes on income, profit and property paid directly by the taxpayer to the tax authorities.
Net income
Family income after deduction of taxes and accrual of benefits.
Dividends
Payment to the company's shareholders from current or previously retained earnings.

Indirectly Assessed Financial Intermediation Services (FISIM)
This represents an implicit fee for services provided by monetary financial institutions, paid for by the percentage difference between borrowing and lending, rather than through fees and commissions.

Taxation and spending measures that allow the government to manage the economy.
Foreign direct investment (FDI)
Investments of firms in another country. Outward FDI is the investment of British firms abroad. Incoming FDI is the investment of foreign firms in the UK. This is usually achieved by buying another company or opening new businesses.
