How to Organize a FREE Laundry Day!

How to organize a free laundry day

Since we did our first FREE Laundromat Day in February, I am receiving 100s of email weekly asking how to do this successfully. First, every area, laundromat, etc is going to be different so there is no right or wrong answer. I think everyone personally has to come up with their own plan and then tweak it from there. I did hours of research before we did our first one and each time I am sure we will tweak it a little bit.

Before you can even start planning, you have to find a laundromat that is willing to allow you to use their facility. You can really do no other planning until you have a laundromat lined up. Once you have a laundromat that agrees to participate, you will need to see how many washers and dryers they have. If they have the mega washers are you going to use them or just do the smaller washers. If you use the mega washers, you are looking at taking up 2-3 dryers for that one washer, so that needs to be taken into consideration. Also, find out what the average cost is per load to dry. Most of our local laundromats are around $2 (that is a 99% guarantee they are completely dry). You want to make sure you have all the funds you need to make this successful. From there, you decide how many hours will we do this event, 2, 3, 4, etc. I would recommend 2 or 3. At our first one in February, we did it for 4 hours and that is a long time! You will also want to start your last wash cycle about 45 minutes before the end time, so you have time to get the last loads in the dryer. Make sure the number of washers matches the number of dryers. If you have more washers than dryers (which most laundromats do), then I recommend only using the same amount of both washers and dryers as this allows it to run more smoothly. Also a big decision will be, are you going to limit how many loads each person/family will get. We limit ours to 2 loads per family so we can help more families; that is a decision each individual organization will have to make. We also used a number system. We knew ahead of time how many loads of laundry we would be doing (determined by the length of time we were going to be at the laundromat), so we made up that many number cards and laminated them ahead of time. All of our signs said “while supplies last” and/or “Limited supplies”. As people arrived they received a number and we wrote their name by each corresponding number. That way when we had washers open up, we called the next name/number and then highlighted them off our list and they returned their number to us. You will also need to decide if you want to provide food. If you do, I do not recommend advertising that, as you will get several people off the street just for food and space is already limited at most laundromats. Again, that is going to be a personal preference for each organization. Once you determine how many loads of laundry you can do, both wash and dry, you can determine what supplies you will need. Again, It is better to have too much than not enough. I want to end by saying again, there is no right or wrong way to do this. This is just a brief synopsis of how we did it, but each individual organization may want to do things a little differently, but I do highly recommend the number system, as it keeps things more in order. The most important thing, in my opinion, is prayer. Once you decide to do it, ask for people to commit to praying for it, for the people that will be receiving the blessing, for the volunteers, for the laundromat, etc. It is a huge undertaking, but everyone that leaves there will be changed, both the givers and the receivers. It is AMAZING. AND be sure to have great fellowship and love on the ones receiving:) This is something that could change their lives! I hope this helps anyone considering doing a FREE Laundromat Day and would love you all to share pictures when/if you do it. My prayer is many will get involved in this cool way to show the Love of Jesus to so many others. Something we may take for granted, but a luxury to so many families.

This all started, because Jamie and I had another God-side Dream and know this is BIG, but we know that all things are possible through Christ.  We prayed and this is what we have been inspired to do.  We are providing a Make A Difference Day in the City of Toledo, OH April 26th. We are trying to raise funds to provide a FREE Laundromat Day at all the Laundromats in Toledo. We need to raise $10,600 to make this happen, which equals 2040 loads of laundry washed and dried at all locations!!!  We are asking for businesses, churches, and families to adopt an entire laundromat and provide this service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m on Saturday, April 26th. Below is a list of all the laundromats and what it will costs to provide that service. In addition, we are asking for donations of laundry detergent, softener, bleach, and dryer sheets. Lets show other communities how much random acts of kindness truly can impact someone’s life.

Feeding the Homeless/Less Fortunate April 13, 2014 at St. Lucas Church!!

1b

Today was simply amazing. We served at our new location, St. Lucas Church, and we were just not sure what to expect. We prayed that God would send the perfect number and my goodness did he ever.

1b

We served 170 people. Can I get an AMEN!!! We did not begin serving until 4 p.m. but we had people lined up as early as 3:15. When we finally opened the doors for the people to come in there were over 40 people waiting. There were so many families that came and each child received an Easter Basket, plus we had care packages for the adults. The interaction was amazing. Dennis felt like a superstar, because everyone knew him.

1b

The compliments we received on the food and how much they were able to eat. God was definitely in the house. It is always difficult when you serve at a new place, as you are not sure how may will show up, how smoothly will it run, etc, but it was AWESOME. One gentleman asked Jamie for a bag and Jamie gave it to him and Jamie said “Here you go friend” and we overheard the man saying to one of his friends, he just met me and he called me friend. He was so excited. Another guy was calling Jamie “Daddy” and when they left he asked when we were coming back. Actually I think every single person there today asked when we were serving again.

1b

The best part is, they were actually served today. We had people getting their drinks, napkins, more food. . it was just so cool to watch the interaction. Jesus was definitely in the house and the love was overflowing. My most favorite part is how every single person that entered, I am confident felt loved. No strings attached, they just came and were served. This is how the world is supposed to be. No judgement, no negativity, just LOVE!! To sit back and watch everyone eating and coming up for seconds, well it does a heart good. I know I have said it so many times, but this is honestly one of the happiest times for me. To be able to show others just how important they are. . . I don’t care what their background is, if they have a job, if they are black, white, or purple with pink polka dots, because to me all I see is God’s creation. . masterpieces. I also sat back today and watched how God orchestrated all of this. For us to do the FREE Laundromat Day in February, to stopping by the church (as it is behind the Laundromat), meeting the pastor, and just how it all came into existence; totally a God thing! Thank you so much to everyone that served, donated, and prayed for this event. It was everything we expected and more!!

GOD IS GOOD. . . ALL THE TIME!!

Earn Extra Cash/Gift Cards – These are my recommendations!!

earn extra cash fast

**I GOT THIS FREE**

As most of you know, I am very BIG on saving money and finding creative ways to earn extra cash/gift cards.  Here is a picture of my Ipad that I got for FREE + I have over $500 already in my Amazon Account since January 1st, 2014.  So at that rate, I am earning close to $350/month, which means just in the items listed below I will earn over $4500 by the end of the year.  This is how I pay for CHRISTmas and Back-To-School shopping.   PLUS I just received my iPad for FREE!! I have listed the top 5 ways.  I have several others that I do, but these are the top 5 that most of the readers have had the greatest success with also.  I am going to list each of them and then a link that will take you directly to the post so you can get more information about each of these.  This is how we continue to have a debt-FREE CHRISTmas and school shopping.  We keep it in our Amazon Account or Paypal Account and don’t touch it until we need it.  It adds up quickly.

**Here’s my top 5 for earning extra money/gift cards**

1.  Opinion Outpost - This is a survey company.  Here is a testimony from one of our readers for this survey company: “Hi, Joni! Here I am again, giving my testimony of how amazing the survey sites are. I just tallied all of my amazon.com purchases since August. Grand total: $650. I spent $29 out of pocket, but used my Jingit card to pay for $15 of that :). So for around $14, I got a jogging stroller/ carseat combo, a Nintendo 3DS, 2 DS games and a case, a tummy time play set, several DVDs, a few books and baby toys, an indoor TV antenna, an OSU uniform for my 6-year-old, breast feeding pillow, and baby bottles! I’m waiting on a few gift cards to be processed now, and once I get them, I’ll be ordering a diaper bag that I would have never wanted to pay full price for if I didn’t have gift cards to use! I so incredibly thankful for these blessings!! ”

2.  Swagbucks - Replace this with your google search and you will randomly get points for searches.  We all search and most of us google, but just use this in place of google and watch your earnings rack up! This is one of the easiest ways to earn gift cards, etc.

3.  Plink – Get paid to go out to eat and shop.  For every 500 points you earn you can cash that in for a $5 gift card to Walmart, Amazon, Kohls, and many other stores.

4.  Checkout 51, Ibotta, and SavingStar –  All 3 of these are great ways to maximize your savings.  You get the cash back after you make the purchase, so you don’t get it at the store, but after you upload a picture of your receipt or with SavingStar after it gets credited to your loyalty reward Card.

5.  Shadow Shopping - Be a secret shopping for different shops, etc.  You get to pick what shops you want to do.  I pick the ones we are already going to do, i.e. oil change, going to the movie, restaurants, sporting events, etc.  I like the fact that I can pick and choose which ones I do. Hope you all find this helpful on ways to earn extra cash!
